The V Foundation was established with the support of ESPN in 1993 in honor of Jimmy Valvano, legendary men's basketball coach at North Carolina State University. While Coach V may be known for his championship NCAA team that defeated heavily-favored Houston in 1983, he will forever be remembered as the man who inspired a community to help end cancer. Thanks to the generosity of @Delprado, we will get a chance to raise more awareness today, and money, for a great cause. @TheVFoundation prides itself in donating all monies towards finding a cure for cancer. Check them our here http://www.jimmyv.org/
To date, we have raised over $12,500 since the creation of @abolishcancer in November 2009, all by getting a community of cancer fighters to follow and support us, our sponsors, and the various cancer charities we support. We collect no monies, we simply connect the sponsors with charities. Who would have ever thought Twitter could be used for such a purpose?
We have to thank John Gallagher, CEO of MAPA Imports, LLC, for his generosity for today's and previous "Twitterthons" as we liked to call them. To date, John, and @Delprado have helped raise over $8,000 to various cancer charities with their sponsorships. @Delprado will be hosting their own Twitterthon next week to support their own charity helping to put a roof on a shelter in Peru. Please follow and support them.
So, what are you waiting for? Follow @abolishcancer, retweet our messages and let's end this disease once and for all. Our day starts with 16,200 followers.
